My House of Memories
A European award winning digital reminiscence activity app for people living with Dementia. Initially developed in 2014 for National Museums Liverpool. It is maintained and updated by Damibu.
My role in the development of the app included iterative UI designs and iconography. These designs were informed by the expert advice of NHS Mersey Care, NML staff, Innovate Dementia and many others.
My designs went through an extremely informative process of user testing with the target audience: People living with dementia. Often times they would give feedback on how their condition could produce unexpected and unintuitive accessibility, perception and comprehension issues. The insights gained from these co-creation sessions with the SURF group were invaluable and helped to hone a solution which really engaged users with dementia.
Later versions of the app would include a growing collection of reminiscence content from not only NML but dozens of other museums, archives and individuals nationwide. This was made possible by the bespoke CMS we produced to manage the upload of content, addition of metadata, validation of draft items and publishing of items as “packs” to be downloaded via the in-app system.
Recently the app was extended to the North American region when we localised the app and included content from the Minnesota Historical Society. Future plans have the East Asian region in mind to help address their growing elderly demographic.
